The Pro-Globalization Post of Supportiveness

Hello, citizens of Graded or otherwise.  Today my humanities class had a Socratic Seminar about Globalization.  There are many people against globalization.  As you may know, I am not one of them.  I am totally (95%) for globalization.

A reason I am pro-globalization is because of an episode of 30 Days.  In that episode, an American's job was outsourced to India.  While he was in India he worked at a call center, which payed surprisingly well, and was outsourced.  This job that doesn't pay well in the US payed great there.  This gives Indians more jobs that they need more than Americans.  Americans are worried about losing their job and moving into an apartment, but Indians are getting jobs and they live in huts practically.They obviously need the jobs more.

One thing that came up in the discussion was the question "What would the world be like without globalization?"  Everyone answered with statements like "I wouldn't have this..." or "I wouldn't be here", but I answered the question differently.  I didn't say what it would be like without globalization, I pointed out that there couldn't not be globalization.  Before the discovery of the Americas, before countries were this populated, before electricity, etc. countries wanted more land.  So they sent out explorers to find more land.  Of course, humans weren't all in one spot.  And the explorers wouldn't just happen to never look in the spot without other people.  So eventually, the expeditions arrived at places with people already inhabiting it.  The expedition groups obviously wouldn't be able to fight them, they were too outnumbered, so they communicated with the natives.  They befriended them, and discovered goods that they didn't have in their home country.  They would trade something valuable for it, and take it back to their land.  This caused several trade routs to different countries so they could get this good.  This started globalization.  It was inevitable.

The final reason globalization is good has to do with the question "What would the world be like without globalization?".  Many people said they wouldn't be here.  But, without globalization, there would be no here.  Graded was caused by globalization.  If it was possible to not have globalization, and there wasn't, there would be no use to have an American school in São Paulo.  no one would go there, because no one would know what the English language was.   No where would need an international school, because there is no international anything.  Graded wouldn't be there, and it would not even exist.

I hope that you now know that globalization is not a negative thing and that it was unavoidable.  The world would not be how it is now if it there was none of it.  I wouldn't have my favorite spice ( D: ) because the company wouldn't have the pepper.  Sure, there are downsides, but ultimately the positive thing outweigh them.

Lab 9

1 There were little dots that moved around quickly and randomly that got eaten by a killer worm with fangs, who got eaten by a multicell thing that moved very little.  There was also a smaller worm, who twitched and moved around little distance, but did so suddenly.
2 In the organisms I couldn't make out cell parts, but the biggest one I could but I didn't know what they were.
3 They all were transparent, except for a blue fungus.
4 The killer worm had fangs that it used so trap the little dots.
5 I think that the bacteria we didn't observe were what fed the crazy little dots, who were eaten by the killer worms.
6 These organisms compare to animals because the little dots where like rabbits, moving around fast.  The killer worms were like wild dogs, who ate the little dots.  Finally, the multicell one was like a lion, that sneak attacked the killer worm.
7 I observed a very obvious food chain of the little dots, the killer worm, and the multicell thing.  I explained it above.

Drop or water world omg coolness

Okay so methinks that life is possible in a drop of water.  Microscopic life.  Beautiful microorganisms.  They are so tiny they can fit it the drop.
I think class fishtank will be not-so-much life in it as waterfall, but i have no idea what the heck Represa Guarapiranga is. Now I'm stuck with this highlight oh great.
I think that I do not know what we will find. Maybe there will be decomposers? That is what I think.

Lab 8 Post Lab

The Elodea cells were organized like a brick wall.  The lettuce cells were not as organised.  Actually they were not organized at all.  They were in random shaped and sizes.  Also in the lettuce there were guard cells guarding stomas.  In the elodea it was really just the leaf cells.
The chloroplasts were in both of the plant cells.  They are green*.  This is what makes the leaf green and the y also make food for the plant.  They always have leftovers.
The guard cells are like walls around a castle, kind of, but add 3 dimensions.  Wait... no that doesn't make scense forget I said castle**.  but they look like semi sheres in the 3d view but through the school microscopes they are semi circular wall.  The stoma is in the middle and is just a small ball.
The existence of plants is importiant because they feed small animals who feed bigger animals who get eaten by bigger and bigger animals, until you get to the human hunter who kills that and we get a cheeseburger.  If plants werent there, the small animals wouldn't have anything to eat cuz theyd be too small.  Then they would die out and all the bigger animals would die out then we would all be dead right now ^o^

What is Globalization?

Globalization is the connection of different countries.  I think that it is good, and bad.  Some good things are the fact that people are coming closer together, and are understanding other cultures more.  Also, it's easier to get the delicious food from another country, now that more restaurants open in more places.  Companies move from one country to another one, helping that country develop.  The not so good things are things like when companies move, the country they left can get less successful.  And if a company moves to a country with higher prices for the same item as another country, those local companies can get poorer because everyone will go to the new company with cheaper prices.  Globalization also effects global warming.  The vehicles used to transport people and goods let off carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
There is one thing that isn't good or bad about globalization.  Slowly but surely, people from different places are getting more alike, and this is creating one culture of the people of Earth.

This project is important to me because it is about cities that I didn't know about two or them, and it helps me with comparisons.  In English I make comparisons all the time, so I suppose that it is important to know comparisons in Portuguese too.

Historical Fiction Story Reflection

In humanities class, we were assigned to write a historical fiction story taking place during Apartheid.  We had to have it have something to do with the Soweto Uprising.  So, immediately, I had an idea:

What if a white person became friends with a black person, and the black person went to the uprising?

It seemed like a good idea, but I needed to have a reason for them to meet.  LIGHT BULB!  How about the white person is very curious and she wonders why she can't go to one part of town.  That seemed like a good idea and I ended up using it.This story kept building and building and eventually it was that I wasn't just doing this for class, I actually enjoyed writing this story.

The learning targets were:

• I can engage and orient the reader.
• I can use narrative techniques to describe experiences, events, and characters in my historical fiction.
• I can use transitional words and phrases to move my story from one moment to the next.
• I can accurately depict how Apartheid affected the lives of South Africans.
• I can use the conventions of writing to communicate my story.

I have lost track of the rubric so I don't know which one I did best at. Sorry :(
